Positions Available at Douglas Machine Inc. – Alexandria, MN
Administrative Assistant (full-time 1st shift) –
Main responsibility will be to provide and/or oversee the provision of overall administrative support for the Customer Service department. Share the function of telephone receptionist with other administrative staff throughout the department. Provides necessary administrative support as required.
Education and/or Experience:
Associate degree in a clerical or administrative program or 3 years related experience. Requires good verbal and written communication skills. Proficient using Microsoft office software, personal computers, copiers, fax machines, phone switchboard, laminator, and reproduction equipment. Working knowledge of Douglas Machines Systems and Equipment is a plus.
Application Engineer (full-time 1st shift) –
The Application Engineer assesses machine requirements/specifications, prepares formal quotations, co-ordinates assigned projects and is the customer liaison through machine acceptance.
Education and/or Experience:
This position normally requires a BS degree or its evaluated equivalent, which include applying technical solutions to packaging industry requirements. Technical knowledge of Douglas Machine Inc.’s product lines and Douglas Machine Inc.’s sales procedures is desired. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be proficient at using a personal computer. Must have sound trade knowledge and have demonstrated above average organizational skills and leadership skills. Must be familiar with theDouglasdocumentation system. Must be capable of reading blueprints of packaging machinery. Must have a range of computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, E-mail, and internet/intranet. Must be familiar with accessing data files on the AS400.
Assemblers (full-time 1st shift) –
Assembler II has the assembly skills and knowledge to assist in the assembly of standard/custom packaging machinery. This position provides an individual with the opportunity to learn and develop a mechanical or electrical focus. This individual works under the direction of a Production Supervisor.
Education and/or Experience:
- Must have a High School diploma /GED or equivalent.
- Must have minimum of one year work experience in a related electrical field.
Assistant Electrical Designer (full-time 1st shift) –
Assistant Electrical Designer will create electrical print packages for packaging machines.
Education and/or Experience:
The Assistant Designer should have a two-year degree in electronics with 3 years experience, or equivalent demonstrated abilities. He/she must be proficient in the use of a CAD system and utilize the AS/400 computer, standard office software.
Buyer (full-time 1st shift) –
A Douglas Machine Inc. Buyer is responsible for supply chain management. This includes, but not limited to, the following: contract management, developing and implementing bids, establishing new sources of supply, consolidating existing sources of supply, managing supply chain improvement projects, and intervening on critical supply chain issues.
Qualifications:
- Strong PC knowledge with well developed MS Office application skills.
- Strong organizational and team building skills.
- Ability to analyze data and write/generate reports.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Ability to work independently or on a team.
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively with persons at all levels within the organization as well as with supplier representatives.
- Capable of managing supply chain related projects to through to completion in a timely manner.
Education and/or Experience:
Buyer II:
- Minimum of three to five years supply chain management experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Requires moderate to low supervision.
- Will work towards a professional certification (CPM, APICS, NAPM, etc.).
- Is a resource for the procurement group on supply chain issues.
Buyer III:
- Minimum of seven years supply chain management experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Post secondary education in business, supply management or related field and professional certification is preferred (CPM, APICS, NAPM, etc.).
- Expected to be a leader within the Purchasing team and make recommendations to improve the overall supply chain management process.
- Requires minimal to no supervision; employee possesses the practical and technical knowledge to carry out short term and long term responsibilities.
- Strong supply chain management skills.
- Is a resource for the company on a wide range of supply chain issues.
CNC Programmer I (full-time 2nd shift) –
Programs CNC machine tools by G&M code and offline CAM systems. This individual analyzes and defines production methods and processes required to manufacture parts and products.
Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes related to metal fabrication and assembly.
- Demonstrated ability to write computer programs.
- Strong critical thinking, logic and reasoning to troubleshoot and solve problems
- Working knowledge of personal computers and related software including CAD/CAM systems.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Education and/or Experience:
- Two year vocational/technical degree and one year of experience in a manufacturing environment or High school diploma / GED and 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
Electrical Engineers (full-time 1st shift)
The Engineer II position is responsible for projects of considerable scope and complexity. This position interacts frequently with other internal professionals across functional lines within the business cell and also interacts with external customers and suppliers on routine technical issues as required. In addition, the Engineer II position may exercise considerable influence over other functional areas to resolve problems to complete assigned work on schedule.
Qualifications:
- Consistently exceeded expectations in previous role.
- Strong creativity and problem solving skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- High proficiency in the use of personal computers and related software.
- Computer Aided Design/Drafting (CAD) experience (Cadra and SolidWorks preferred).
Education and/or Experience:
- B.S.degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 3 years experience in packaging machine design or equivalent education and/or experience in a related field.
- Demonstrated success in the design of packaging machines.
Field Service Technician (full-time 1st shift)
The Field Service Technician II has the skills and the knowledge to install, service, and repair Douglas Machine automated packaging machinery. Service work may include, but not limited to performing routine maintenance, repairs, modification, machine setup, or training of customer personnel. In addition, this position requires extensive travel to customer sites.
Qualifications:
- Must be able and willing to apply required customer service skills.
- Must have the skills to produce and submit complete and accurate trip and expense reports in a timely manner.
- Must have good mechanical and electrical background in a manufacturing or production environment, preferably in the packaging manufacturing industry.
- Must have knowledgeable of automated machine controls.
- Must be able to read and follow blueprints, machine drawings, and electrical drawings.
- Must be proficient with use of a laptop computer and related software.
- Must be able to use a variety of machine and hand tools.
- Must be able and willing to travel a minimum 75% of the time.
Education and/or Experience:
- Must have a two year technical degree in a related field and one year of demonstrated work experience in the packaging manufacturing industry or a high school diploma and three years of demonstrated work experience in the packaging manufacturing industry or related technical field.
Machinist (full-time 2nd & weekend shifts) –
The Machinist I position is the first of three levels of skilled machinist work. This position requires a technical degree in Machine Tool Technology and some work experience including an internship or equivalent. Under direct supervision, operates more than one type of machine tool such as mills, drill presses, lathes etc., on machining operations with a low to moderate degree of difficulty in support of production operations.
Qualifications:

Quality Assurance Engineer (full-time 1st shift) –
As a quality representative for the entire corporation, this individual will be responsible for facilitating and maintaining a “best in class” quality assurance system under the direction of the Continuous Improvement Manager. This person will work closely with the Information Systems department and individual business units in measuring quality improvement projects. The individual works closely with all business units as well as their respective design, manufacturing and commissioning groups to improve the quality of products and services.
Qualifications
- Must have a working knowledge of the development and operation of quality control systems, application and analysis of testing and inspection procedures.
- Ability to use metrology and statistical methods to diagnose and correct improper quality control practices, an understanding of human factors and motivation, facility with quality cost concepts and techniques.
- Knowledge and ability to develop and administer management information systems and to audit quality systems for deficiency identification and correction.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, to all levels within the organization and a good command of the English language is also deemed essential.
Education and/or Experience:
- A four-year college degree in an engineering related field or equivalent demonstrated work experience in a related quality field is desired. An ASQ Certified Quality Engineer certificate is ideal.
- Four or more years of professional quality engineering or similar work experience within the packaging automation industry is desired.
- Experience in the implementation of a Quality Management system such as ISO or Malcolm Baldrige is desired.
Sheet Metal Fabricators (full-time 2nd or 3rd shift)
Performs the shaping and forming of a variety of sheet metal components using shear punches, punch press, and spot welder.
Education and/or Experience:
Individual should have two years of formal education in a sheet metal fabrication area. Also should have some on the job experience in metalworking and fabrication.
