Positions Available at Douglas Machine Inc. – Alexandria, MN

CNC Machinists (full-time weekend shift) – 

The Machinist I position is the first of three levels of skilled machinist work. This position requires a technical degree in Machine Tool Technology and some work experience including an internship or equivalent. Under direct supervision, operates more than one type of machine tool such as mills, drill presses, lathes etc., on machining operations with a low to moderate degree of difficulty in support of production operations.

Qualifications:

  • Able to read and understand blue prints
  • Able to read and use precision measuring tools
  • Able to learn and understand job methods and instructions in a timely manner

  • Able to do accurate work

 Education and/or Experience:

  • Technical degree in Machine Tool Technology or related field and some machining work experience such as an internship or High school diploma / GED and 2 years of relevant machining experience or equivalent preferred.

CNC Programmer  (full-time 2nd shift) –

Programs CNC machine tools by G&M code and offline CAM systems.  This individual analyzes and defines production methods and processes required to manufacture parts and products.

Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes related to metal fabrication and assembly.
  • Demonstrated ability to write computer programs.
  • Strong critical thinking, logic and reasoning to troubleshoot and solve problems
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and related software including CAD/CAM systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

 Education and/or Experience:

  • Two year vocational/technical degree and one year of experience in a manufacturing environment or High school diploma / GED and 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

Electrical Designer/Electrical Engineers (full-time 1st shift) –

The Engineer II position is responsible for projects of considerable scope and complexity.  This position interacts frequently with other internal professionals across functional lines within the business cell and also interacts with external customers and suppliers on routine technical issues as required.  In addition, the Engineer II position may exercise considerable influence over other functional areas to resolve problems to complete assigned work on schedule.

 Qualifications:

  • Consistently exceeded expectations in previous role.
  • Strong creativity and problem solving skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • High proficiency in the use of personal computers and related software.
  • Computer Aided Design/Drafting (CAD) experience (Cadra and SolidWorks preferred).

Education and/or Experience:

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 3 years experience in packaging machine design or equivalent education and/or experience in a related field.
  • Demonstrated success in the design of packaging machines.

Engineering Technician (full-time 1st shift) –

This position works under general engineering supervision and follows established procedures.  Work is periodically monitored by the Engineering Manager or Engineer and reviewed upon completion for soundness of technical judgment, overall accuracy, and thoroughness in meeting project technical requirements.  The Technician I may occasionally work with little or no supervision for extended periods.

This position is typically responsible for projects of a variety of scope and complexity within the company, which requires a high level of accuracy, accountability, and decision-making ability.

This position has frequent contact with other inter-organizational and outside customer contacts on routine technical issues.  This position represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical problems associated with specific projects.

Qualifications:

  • Strong creativity and problem solving skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in the use of personal computers and related software.
  • Ability to read and interpret prints and machine drawings.

Education and/or Experience:

This individual must have superior capabilities and aptitude in either the mechanical or electrical controls fields or have demonstrated strengths in both disciplines to qualify for this position

  • A minimum of a two-year technical degree in a related field and four years’ experience or high school diploma/GED and eight years of demonstrated work experience in a related field.  Prefer experience within the packaging industry.

Field Service Technical Advisor (full-time 1st shift) –

The Field Service Technical Advisor assists and provides customers with technical information.  This position also coordinates information and briefs Service Technicians to ensure that customer service activity accomplishes corporate objectives.  In addition, the Field Service Technical Advisor ensures that machine records reflect current machine configuration and provides input on Service Technician performance reviews and training needs.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to resolve electrical and mechanical problems on assigned types of Douglas Machine manufactured equipment
  • Strong communication, customer service and organizational skills
  • Possess basic knowledge and understanding of Allen Bradley PLC logic ; programming skills on a wide variety of machine controls is a plus
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Lotus Notes computer software

 Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma / GED or equivalent
  • Minimum of five years demonstrated work experience in resolving electrical and mechanical problems on assigned types of Douglas Machine manufactured equipment

Field Service Technician (full-time 1st shift)

The Field Service Technician II has the skills and the knowledge to install, service, and repair Douglas Machine automated packaging machinery.   Service work may include, but not limited to performing routine maintenance, repairs, modification, machine setup, or training of customer personnel.  In addition, this position requires extensive travel to customer sites.

Qualifications:

  • Must be able and willing to apply required customer service skills.
  • Must have the skills to produce and submit complete and accurate trip and expense reports in a timely manner.
  • Must have good mechanical and electrical background in a manufacturing or production environment, preferably in the packaging manufacturing industry.
  • Must have knowledgeable of automated machine controls.
  • Must be able to read and follow blueprints, machine drawings, and electrical drawings.
  • Must be proficient with use of a laptop computer and related software.
  • Must be able to use a variety of machine and hand tools.
  • Must be able and willing to travel a minimum 75% of the time.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Must have a two year technical degree in a related field and one year of demonstrated work experience in the packaging manufacturing industry or a high school diploma and three years of demonstrated work experience in the packaging manufacturing industry or related technical field.

Maintenance Technician (full-time 1st shift) –

The Maintenance Technician performs maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electromechanical equipment and systems, including building systems, CNC equipment, hand tools, welders and various PC and PLC controlled machines.  The Maintenance Technician is also responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of fluid power systems.

In addition, the Maintenance Technician must be able to effectively use electronic schematics, ladder diagrams, blue prints, technical manuals, parts catalogs and test equipment to determine defective components and perform repairs.  This position is also responsible for completing preventative maintenance procedures on equipment.  Work must comply with appropriate regulatory codes.

Because of the high potential for serious bodily injury and damage to equipment, it is imperative the Maintenance Technician have an extensive knowledge and practical working experience with hi-voltage electricity.  No further consideration will be given to candidates who do not meet this criterion.

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to communicate and work well with superiors, customer personnel, co-workers, suppliers and others associated with the company’s business.
  • Must be able to manage time and set priorities and be able to perform his/her job in a professional manner.
  • Must be able to perform administrative tasks required for completing work logs, work orders, and creating standard preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Prefer knowledge and working experience with hi-voltage electricity.
  • Ability to utilize tools and meters for measuring, testing, and diagnostics.  Tools include: VOM, oscilloscope, micrometers, calipers, laser measuring devices, and other tools common to the trade.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Fluid Power and Control systems.
  • Ability to use tools and operate equipment in a safe manner.
  • Possess strong skills and knowledge in the following areas: Electronics Troubleshooting, Problem Solving, Equipment Maintenance, Power Tools, Technical Ability and Understanding, Judgment, Attention to Detail.
  • Proficient in the use of applicable business software.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Requires a two year technical degree in Fluid Power, Industrial Maintenance or related technical field and three years demonstrated work experience or a high school diploma/GED and five years related work experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must have training and/or extensive experience in the maintenance and repair of electromechanical systems, equipment and machine tools.
  • Machine tool, facility and equipment maintenance and repair experience.

Mechanical Engineer (full-time 1st shift) –

The Engineer II position is responsible for projects of considerable scope and complexity.  This position interacts frequently with other internal professionals across functional lines within the business cell and also interacts with external customers and suppliers on routine technical issues as required.  In addition, the Engineer II position may exercise considerable influence over other functional areas to resolve problems to complete assigned work on schedule.

Robotics Engineer/Electrical Engineer (full-time 1st shift) –

The Robotics Engineer is an experienced engineer who is recognized as a leader within the company in his/her area of expertise. This individual plays a critical role in the designing, building, installing, and troubleshooting of high-tech, high-speed automated robotic electro-mechanical machinery systems. This position also provides direction and guidance to other engineering colleagues and frequently interacts with other industry professionals. In addition, the Robotics Engineer requires frequent interactions with internal and external customers.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Education: MS preferred, with specialization in robotics. BS is minimum requirement, but more relevant work experience is preferred if candidate has only a BS
  • Work experience: At least 5 years, preferably 10 years working on robotics systems
  • Preferred experiences: Design robotic systems or applying robotic systems in packaging. Implementing robotic, electro-mechanical and machine/motion controls systems into process and manufacturing equipment, including experience customizing vision and advanced

Saw Operator (full-time weekend shift) –

Saw Operator I is the first of three levels of skilled saw operator work.  This position requires the ability to use measurement tools.  Has knowledge of commonly used sawing material concepts, practices, and procedures.  Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job and works under direct supervision.

Qualifications:

  • Able to learn and understand job methods and instructions in a timely manner

Education and/or Experience:

  • Prefer technical degree in Manufacturing or related field and some metal sawing experience or High school diploma / GED and 2 years of metal sawing experience or equivalent preferred

Senior Maintenance Mechanic – (full-time 1st shift) –

Performs a variety of plant and equipment maintenance tasks, primarily of a mechanical nature.

Education and/or Experience:

Must have training and/or extensive experience in the maintenance and repair of mechanical systems and equipment.  Has to be familiar with the proper use of a variety of hand and power tools.  A maintenance background with both mechanical and electrical responsibilities is desirable.  The ability to work independently, to prioritize and change work focus, and to identify and propose solutions and improvements is essential.  The availability to work a flexible work schedule as required is necessary.

Sheet Metal Fabricators (full-time 2nd shift)

Performs the shaping and forming of a variety of sheet metal components using shear punches, punch press, and spot welder.

Education and/or Experience:

Individual should have two years of formal education in a sheet metal fabrication area.  Also should have some on the job experience in metalworking and fabrication.
