Douglas Machine Inc. – Alexandria, MN
Assembler – Level II or III (full-time 1 st & 2 nd shift) – Assembler II has the assembly skills and knowledge to assist in the assembly of standard/custom packaging machinery. This position provides an individual with the opportunity to learn and develop a mechanical or electrical focus. This individual works under the direction of a Manufacturing Technician.
Education and/or Experience:
Assembly Technician – Level I or II (full-time 1 st shift) – This position works under general assembly supervision and follows established procedures. Work is frequently monitored by a supervisor and reviewed periodically by Engineering to ensure that the machine is set up and operating according to the design intent. Individual may occasionally work with little or no supervision for moderate periods of time. This position may occasionally be called upon to function as a project lead when the technical risk or complexity of the equipment is not prohibitive.
This position is typically responsible for setup, testing and debug of projects that fall within the standard product offering or core areas of expertise within the business cell. This individual must have strong capabilities in the setup and debug of mechanical systems or the power-up and debug of electrical systems common to products produced by the business cell. In addition, this individual must have considerable experience and knowledge in product and materials handling dynamics such as friction and aerodynamics, product grouping, material thickness and stiffness, etc. or this position will be expected to download programs, set up system networks and commission servo axes with engineering assistance.
This position will be required to represent the company by traveling as needed to install new equipment in the customer's facility. Occasional travel may also be required to service equipment already in service.
Education and/or Experience:
Assistant Mechanical Designer (full-time 1 st shift) – Individual is responsible for completing a design package once the Project Designer has designed it. The Assistant Designer may be required to do some design work. The Assistant Designer must have a two-year vocational/technical education in mechanical drafting and design. He/she must also have a minimum of two years of experience in a related field. He/she must be able to utilize the AS/400 computer, standard office software, and be proficient in the use of the CAD system.
Assistant Product Designer (full-time 1 st shift) – The Assistant Product Designer works with designers, engineers, assemblers, customers, and sales and marketing in order to visually provide a look and feel to Douglas Machine equipment that satisfies customers needs and expectations. The Assistant Product Designer helps develop and promote concepts, ideas, and existing equipment by the generation of still images, digital photography, and computer animation. This individual must be a dedicated professional with proven organizational, prioritization, and leadership skills. An AAS or BS degree in the field of Design Technology or its evaluated equivalent including training, exposure to 2D and 3D computer graphics, and animation technology are required. Extensive personal computer skills including the application of word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software, Adobe Photoshop or similar photo editing software, and various animation software’s are required. Trade knowledge is helpful but not required.
Buyer II (full-time 1 st shift) – Responsible for procurement of materials, supplies, equipment, and services required by various Douglas Machine Inc. business units
Education and/or Experience:
Must have a minimum of three years experience or equivalent in a manufacturing environment that includes metal fabrication and assembly. Post-secondary education and/or professional certification (APICS, NAPM, etc.) is preferred. Supply Chain Management and World Class Manufacturing training and/or experience is desirable.
Electrical Engineer (full-time 1 st shift) – The Electrical Engineer is responsible for producing the complete machine control system that complies with engineering and electrical standards for each project he/she is assigned. He/she is also involved in the creation of design standards/practices and the development of new machine concepts. The Electrical Engineer provides guidance to other less experienced Electrical Designers and Engineers and work direction to Assistant Designers assigned to his projects. The Electrical Engineer must have an Electrical Engineering degree and an understanding of machine logic. Must be familiar with and able to use the CAD system.
Field Service Technician (full-time 1 st shift) – Performs field service function for Douglas manufactured equipment. Service work may include, but is not limited to, routine maintenance, repairs, modification, machine setup, or training of customer personnel. Individual must have good mechanical and electrical background, preferably in a manufacturing or production area. Individual must be capable of reading blueprints, machine drawings, and electrical drawings. Has to be skilled in the use of a laptop computer and related software, variety of machine and hand tools, and must be willing to travel approximately 75% of the time.
Mechanical Designer/Engineer (full-time 1 st shift) – This position is responsible for producing and reconfiguring complete machine design packages using existing technology. This position interacts frequently with internal customers and occasionally with external customers. In addition, this position’s area of influence will focus primarily on routine projects assigned to him or her within their own department.
Education and/or Experience:
This individual must have good capabilities and aptitude in either the mechanical or electrical design fields to qualify for this position.

Remote Field Service Technician – Level II or III (full-time 1 st shift) – Performs remote field service function for Douglas manufactured equipment. Service work may include, but is not limited to, routine maintenance, repairs, modification, machine setup, or training of customer personnel. Technician will work on an “as assigned” basis. Individual must have good mechanical and electrical background, preferably in a manufacturing or production area. Individual must be capable of reading blueprints, machine drawings, and electrical drawings. Skilled in the use of a laptop computer and job related software, variety of machine and hand tools preferred. Individual must be willing to travel. Excellent communications skills required.
Saw Operator (full-time 1 st shift) – The Saw Operator cuts and deburrs materials where needed. Individual must be able to use measuring equipment and be able to work in an organized manner. Individual must be able to work with people. Individual must be willing to learn how to operate all other equipment in the department. Individual must be able to maintain inventory control procedures. Individual must have math skills to calculate and optimize material lengths and quantities to input into machine control.
Sheet Metal Fabricator (full-time 1 st shift) – Performs the shaping and forming of a variety of sheet metal components using shear punches, punch press, and spot welder. Individual should have two years of formal education in a sheet metal fabrication area. Also should have some on the job experience in metalworking and fabrication.
Shop Laborer (full-time weekend shift) – With diminishing assistance and direction, provides support service to line operators. Individual must be mentally alert and physically able to perform tasks in a timely manner.
Technical Writer (full-time 1 st shift) – Produces written and electronic documentation to help customers operate and maintain machines manufactured by Douglas. A BA/BS in English, Journalism or Technical Writing or AA/AS Degree in Technical Writing with 4 years experience or equivalent experience is required. Experience within packaging industry is preferred. This position requires excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. This position requires a basic understanding of machine technology and functionality. Individual should be proficient with computers, publishing software, multimedia software and photographic equipment. Individual must be able to function effectively with a minimum amount of supervision.
Welder (full-time 3 rd shift) – Is capable of performing a variety of welding functions. The individual is familiar with and capable of using various types of welding equipment.
